Until 1961, the cast iron melted down in Baignes. It was one of the important industries on the territory.
It produced stoves, cauldrons or waffle irons. This industry left us an amazing architectural heritage including the forge, the stables, the storehouse, the accommodation, the orangery and the dovecote.
Built by Jean-Antoine Guyet, disciple of Claude Nicolas Ledoux, those buildings remind us the famous Royal Saltworks in Arc-et-Senans.
